Users can now find all their ration card information online.
In an effort to assist with the public distribution system across the country, India came about with the ration card. This tiny document has all the details of a family, including their members, and income, which allows the Government to distribute the right quantities of food grain to various families. Over the years, the ration card has gone through multiple changes, including from a booklet to a plastic card, with a couple of additional features. There were also issues with the cards in some states, which needed the Government to take some drastic steps and discontinue certain ration cards from being used.
The Government wiped out 1.6 crores of bogus ration cards throughout the country. It is safe to say that a majority of these might have been illegal, while others were inactive and might have been misused. However, a lot of genuine cards were caught in the crossfire and this is not something that the masses take lightly to. Mainly because they don't always have the ability to go through the entire process and handle creating a card from scratch.
The Government has now created a PDS portal for tracking anything and everything relating to ration cards across the country. The public distribution website has details connected to the prices of grains in various states, so users would not get cheated. It also has details of the number of fair price shops, the numerous grains available and the amount provided and received state-wise, and much more. Short of creating a ration card and filling out application forms, the site handles everything else. The government is regularly updating their schemes on the website and adding information about their frequently asked questions. For more information about ration cards throughout the country, you can check out their website.
